Commenter notification not working

I'm migrating a site to plone 3.1.4 and just upgraded to qPloneComments 3.1  The commenting feature seems to be working properly but the commenter notifications (when comment is published, rejected or when a repy is posted) do not work.  I have all 3 boxes 'checked' in the product set up.  Is anyone else experiencing this?  I've used qPloneComments on my Plone 2.5 site for almost a year and have not had issues with this feature before.

We tried to reproduce your problem on our instance, and qPloneComments seems to be working correctly (the same product version and Plone version you mentioned). The messages are sent to commenter email with every comment moderation.

Our suggestion:
- make sure all corresponding boxes are checked
- check whether any other forms are successfully sent from your web-site (like registration or password reset form)

Hi Olha,


Thanks for looking into this.  I've made a bit more progress -- it seems that if the user submitting the comment has registered with the same "Name" and "username"  the emails are sent properly, but if the "name" and "Username" fields are different (as they usually are), the emails are not sent.  I'm suspicious that the script that mails the commenter is trying to associate an email with the wrong field.  Can you try again to reproduce making sure you're logged in as a user with a "Name" that differs from your "username".

Hello Stephanie,

Well, I tried to add comments with a logged-in user that have different username and Name, the emails are still coming into the mailbox. Even if an anonymous user is commenting (providing his name (no username)), and providing his email address, he also gets emails with notifications saying that the comment was published or answered.

So, I still can't reproduce your problem on my instance, and I can't give you any suggestions concerning its solving :(
