Geotagging Additional Content Types

Posted by Chris McAllister at March 26. 2007

I'll have to start by saying that I'm quite new to Plone - but I find the platform absolutely fascinating because of the flexibility. I installed your Googlemaps content geotagging products, and I'm very impressed with the way it operates - its going to be indispensible for a project we're using to plot historical artefacts for a First Nations native group here in Canada.

I noticed than when I add files like word documents, its not possible to tag the geolocation. Can you explain how to add this functionality? If this is too much of a newbie question, pointing me to documentation that explains the structure so I can figure out how to support more content types, that would be great. :)

Is there support for geo tagging:

- Plonexfile documents

- PloneArticle content

Thank you so much in advance.

Sincerely,

Chris McAllister.

Ack! Please disregard this message. I found the answer in a previous post.

Thanks for your help!

It would be great if qPloneGoogleMaps would by default allow geolocation of folders.  To some this may seem odd (just as Kupu doesn't automatically allow linking to containers) but for some of us it would be very useful.

Example: a folder contains a long list of data files, GIS layers, etc all referring to a particular location.  The folder is always to be viewed in e.g. summary view, not map view.  Having the GM portlet display the geolocation of the folder's contents would be very helpful.  At present it requires the mod'ing described in a previous post.

Your usecase doesn't need any customization because

map_view of folderish objects display it's content item's locations on map. So

you only need to switch folder view to map view.

And beside this you can create layer and link it to your's folder.

Modification described in http://talk.quintagroup.com/forums/plone-google-maps/337372503#520340673

post is neccesary only for adding geolocation property for some content type.

This question will be reviewed in farther work on qPloneGoogleMaps, and maybe full customization of content types to implement geolocation functionality will be included.
